Welcome to ISEN Ouest, a leading generalist engineering school
Officially established in 1994, ISEN Ouest is a prestigious engineering school recognized by the French government as a Private Higher Education Institution of General Interest (EESPIG) since July 7, 2016. For the 2024–2025 academic year, the school supports nearly 1,400 students on their path to excellence.
Among the 210 engineering schools accredited by the Commission des Titres d’Ingénieur (CTI), ISEN Ouest stands out with a unique educational approach, focused on applied sciences, digital technologies, and artificial intelligence, serving all sectors of the economy. Its development strategy is built around four key pillars: pedagogy, research, territorial expansion, and internationalization.
An innovative educational strategy
Historically specialized in microelectronics and computer science, ISEN Ouest has evolved into a generalist engineering school. To meet the evolving needs of businesses, the school initiated a strategic transition in the 2010s, placing strong emphasis on science education alongside digital and AI tools applied across a wide range of industries.
Today, ISEN Ouest prepares students to tackle diverse challenges in fields such as energy, robotics, health technologies, finance, environment, and agronomy, while maintaining top-tier programs in its original areas of technical excellence. Courses in human, economic, environmental, and social sciences also play a vital role in the curriculum, reinforcing students’ holistic understanding of their future professional environments.
World-class research
Research is a fundamental pillar of ISEN Ouest, supported by an internationally recognized in-house research unit. Activities focus on intelligent autonomous systems, involving around 120 researchers divided into seven teams. These teams develop expertise in three major areas: data processing, sensor networks, and smart grids.
Close ties with industry foster innovation and technology transfer. Moreover, ISEN Ouest has placed artificial intelligence at the core of its research strategy for many years and invests significantly to strengthen the synergy between education and research.
Territorial expansion and global outreach
To support its growth and meet the growing needs of economic stakeholders, ISEN Ouest expanded beyond Brest by opening new campuses in Nantes in 2017 and Caen in 2020. These developments were made possible through partnerships with local governments in Pays de la Loire and Normandy.
In addition, ISEN Ouest is expanding its international footprint through the globalization of its campuses. With approximately 15% international students and several Master’s programs taught in English, the school is increasing its appeal and preparing students to thrive in a globalized world.
Welcome to the world of tomorrow.
