Student life is also shaped by the events that take place throughout the year on our campuses. Welcome activities, sports events, student parties, club projects, cultural events and local initiatives give students opportunities to connect with one another, get involved in school life and share experiences beyond the classroom.
Welcome and integration events
From the start of the academic year, a range of activities helps new students discover campus life, meet student associations and start building connections with their classmates.
BDE presentation: at the beginning of the academic year, first-year students learn about the role of the Student Union (BDE), its responsibilities and the events it will organize on their campus throughout the year.
Club fair: student clubs present their projects, current needs and available roles. Students can then meet club members at their stands and find out how they can get involved.
Welcome days: organized over two days by the integration club, these activities give students the opportunity to get to know one another through team-building activities and social events.
Sports events
Throughout the year, the Sports Associations (BDS) organize events that encourage students to stay active while enjoying shared experiences with their classmates.
Themed trips: from Olympic-themed weekends to ski trips, these highlights turn sport into a memorable group experience.
Sports and leisure outings: laser tag, paintball, go-karting and other activities give students opportunities to spend time together outside the classroom and strengthen connections between different year groups.
Sports training: activities such as physical preparation for local races allow students to improve together and work towards shared goals.
Club and cultural events
Clubs and associations also bring campus life to life through cultural and community initiatives, giving students opportunities to share their interests and discover new experiences.
Game nights: regular events on each campus where students can discover new games and take part in themed activities.
International meals and gatherings: international clubs introduce students to cultures from around the world through meals, snacks and international specialties.
Christmas market: during the festive season, student clubs organize activities and run stalls selling Christmas products, bringing the campus community together.
Blood donation drives: held directly on campus, these initiatives give students the opportunity to contribute to a meaningful community cause.
Student competitions
Several clubs give students the opportunity to apply their skills to ambitious projects, often involving student competitions and challenges.
The Coupe de France de Robotique: students design and build a robot according to detailed technical specifications before competing against robots created by other schools and student teams.
C’Space: this student rocket launch competition gives students the opportunity to design, test and launch their own rocket in a demanding technical environment.
The Hult Prize: this international student entrepreneurship competition challenges participants to develop practical and sustainable solutions to major social issues.
Student parties
Student parties are a regular feature of campus life, giving students opportunities to socialize and spend time together outside the classroom.
Parties are organized approximately once a month by the BDE on each campus. They take place either at the school or in partnership with venues located near the campuses. These regular events help maintain strong connections between students throughout the year.
The student gala: held every year on the three main campuses in Brest, Caen and Nantes, the gala is one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the year. Students from all year groups come together for a festive evening that celebrates their shared sense of community and campus life.
BDE election campaign week
Every May, students elect the new BDE team that will lead student life on their campus for the following academic year.
Over the course of a week, two candidate teams campaign to win students’ votes. The week features a busy schedule of daily activities, including meals, snacks, challenges, games and student parties.
Beyond the election itself, BDE campaign week is an important community-building experience. Students discover the candidate teams’ plans, take part in campus democracy and enjoy an eventful week centered around student engagement.
Memorable moments throughout the student experience
Student events often become some of the most memorable moments of life at an engineering school. They mark the beginning of each cohort’s journey, new friendships, team projects and the shared experiences that bring students together throughout the year.
At ISEN Ouest, these events are an integral part of the personal and professional development of future engineers. They provide opportunities to learn how to collaborate, get involved, contribute to a team and enjoy a rewarding student experience on campus.
